Earlier this week, I had dental surgery to remove one of my back teeth. This poor tooth had been through the entire gamut of other dentistry options - root canal, crown, fillings. There was simply nothing left of it to save. Now there’s an empty space in my mouth, healing to prepare for a dental implant in the future. The procedure occurred with the waning moon in Scorpio, traditionally ruled by the planet Mars, who also governs Aries, the sign the sun has moved into today on the Spring Equinox. In the zodiac body, Aries rules the head, including the teeth.
Aries starts the zodiac year, bringing in the spirit of ignition. Fiery, intense, driven, this sign inspires us to courage. What are we willing to fight for? And let go of? How do we choose ourselves in a troubled world?
Hekate has many epithets that can be associated with this sign. Brimo, the terrifying one, evokes wild courage and calls upon us to stop putting up with what doesn’t serve. Her fiery aspects, symbolized by her torches, such as Dadophoros and Lampadios, can light our internal fire while guiding us along the path that is right for us.
Writing a letter to Hekate on this Spring Equinox describing what you are letting go of to create space for what matters most (what you are willing to fight for) can be part of our offerings. Here’s a letter I wrote last summer, which is inspiring the one that I’ll write later today.
However you celebrate today, may the spring season burn bright with her sacred flame.
