It’s not the destination, but the journey that concerns Sagittarius. Embrace The Archer on the Full Moon occurring on June 10-11, 2025 through ritual, meditation, and witchery.
Mighty Hekate, I call upon you to reveal to me that which I seek.
May I travel your road, following your torches.
You are both distant and ever-present.
The crossroads and the journey.
The archer who wanders the wilds,
Restless and fierce as the night.
Illuminated by the moon,
Guiding and protecting me as I venture boldly forth.
A simple Sagittarius altar with black obsidian to stay grounded and yarrow for healing as we journey Hekate’s Road.
From writing a letter pouring our adventures and ideas out to Hekate to questing for magical marvels, the Sagittarius Full Moon evokes the journey, calling us towards new insights and adventures.
The Correspondence Quest exercise in Keeping Her Keys: An Introduction to Hekate’s Modern Witchcraft is an excellent working for the Sagittarius Full Moon, especially trekking to a crossroads. Link below to the PDF of the corresponding chapter, and a special meditation.
Hekate and Sagittarius
Hekate’s name, although the precise meaning is shrouded by the mysteries of centuries, may be translated as “The One From Afar.” Much speculation about this meaning has occurred by academics and devotees. What it seems to signify is that Hekate is not of the native deities associated with the ancient Greeks. She is not part of them, yet holds a special place among them. Evocative of her dominion over the crossroads in other words. She is both the meeting place of roads and the journey, evidenced by her title of “Enodia.” Hekate, in The Greek Magical Papyri, was given the title of Iokheaira, meaning “one who shoots arrows,” (PGM IV 2241-2358). Shared with Artemis, this aspect reinforces her place as separate, and perhaps as a huntress. But what were those ancient scribes really referencing? She’s the One From Afar, shooting arrows, Goddess of Roadways, wondering the night, ruler of the moon, holding twin torches lighting the way.
Weaving this together reveals her unique place within the ancient Greek view of the divine; that she is a guide to those who seek her presence. And if we require a guide, then we must be on a journey. As long as we remain in the familiar space, we don’t need those torches to light us onward. This is the spirit of Sagittarius calling us to discover the new, whether it’s an inward journey, a mystical one, or a road trip for discovering magical treasures. That is where Hekate abides. It’s up to us to follow our arrows and her torches.
